Topography of Terror Berlin
Topography of Terror
Nazi Germany • Top Priority

1. Topography of Terror

Gestapo & SS Headquarters Site

This would be the No. 1 stop for the day. The museum stands on the actual site where the Gestapo, SS leadership and Reich Security Main Office operated during the Nazi period.

The exhibits explain Hitler’s rise, the machinery of Nazi terror, persecution, war, and the aftermath. A surviving section of the Berlin Wall also runs along the site.

2. German Resistance Memorial Center — Bendlerblock

The 1944 Attempt to Overthrow Hitler

This is the historic headquarters connected with the July 20, 1944 assassination attempt on Hitler.

Claus von Stauffenberg returned here after planting the bomb at Hitler’s headquarters. When the coup failed, Stauffenberg and several fellow conspirators were executed in the courtyard that same night.

3. Berlin Story Bunker

“Hitler — How Could It Happen?”

The exhibition is inside an actual World War II air-raid bunker and follows Hitler from his early years through his rise to power, dictatorship, World War II, the Holocaust, the Battle of Berlin and his death.

It also includes a researched model of the Führerbunker and material covering Germany after 1945 — rubble, reconstruction, the economic miracle, division, the Wall and reunification.

Tempelhof Airport

Nazi Architecture • Berlin Airlift

4. Tempelhof Airport

WWII to the 1948–49 Berlin Airlift

The monumental airport complex was built during the Nazi period and later became one of the strongest symbols of West Berlin.

During the Soviet blockade, American and British aircraft used Tempelhof as part of the Berlin Airlift, keeping West Berlin supplied with food, fuel and other necessities.

Kaiser Wilhelm Memorial Church
Kaiser Wilhelm Memorial Church
Bombing • Reconstruction

5. Kaiser Wilhelm Memorial Church

Wartime Destruction & West Berlin Rebuilding

The church was devastated by bombing during World War II. West Berlin chose to preserve the shattered tower rather than erase the damage.

The modern church built beside the ruin became one of the defining symbols of postwar West Berlin — the wartime destruction and the rebuilding of the city standing together in one place.

Dinner area: All three restaurant choices are in Charlottenburg, a short Taxi / Uber ride from the Kaiser Wilhelm Memorial Church.

Day 4 Working Timeline — Taxi / Uber + Museum Time

Working start: 9:30 AM from the Airbnb. This is a planning timeline so we can see whether the five West Berlin stops fit comfortably. Exact November opening hours and any Tempelhof tour time should be rechecked closer to the trip.

9:30 AM
Leave H — Airbnb
  • Taxi / Uber to Topography of Terror: plan about 15–20 minutes.
  • Target arrival: about 9:50 AM, giving a few minutes before the sightseeing day begins.
10:00–11:30 AM
1 — Topography of Terror
  • Planned stay: about 1 hour 30 minutes.
  • Concentrate on the Gestapo / SS headquarters site, Nazi terror apparatus, and the preserved Wall section without trying to read every panel.
11:30–11:45 AM
Travel 1 → 2
  • Taxi / Uber to the German Resistance Memorial Center: about 10–15 minutes.
  • This keeps the day moving west toward the Bendlerblock and the July 20 story.
11:45 AM–12:45 PM
2 — German Resistance Memorial Center — Bendlerblock
  • Planned stay: about 1 hour.
  • Focus on Stauffenberg, the July 20, 1944 assassination attempt, the coup failure, and the courtyard memorial.
12:45–1:05 PM
Travel 2 → 3
  • Taxi / Uber to Berlin Story Bunker: plan about 15–20 minutes.
  • Grab a quick coffee / snack before going in if needed; the longer sit-down meal is saved for dinner.
1:05–2:50 PM
3 — Berlin Story Bunker
  • Planned stay: about 1 hour 45 minutes.
  • Enough time for the “Hitler — How Could It Happen?” story, the Führerbunker model, and the post-1945 section at a steady pace.
2:50–3:10 PM
Travel 3 → 4
  • Taxi / Uber to Tempelhof Airport: about 15–20 minutes.
  • Putting Tempelhof here keeps the outdoor / airport-history stop before late-afternoon darkness in November.
3:10–4:10 PM
4 — Tempelhof Airport
  • Planned stay: about 1 hour for the airport history, exterior, and Berlin Airlift story.
  • If we book a full building tour: this stop will need more time and the timeline should be adjusted around the tour's fixed start time.
4:10–4:35 PM
Travel 4 → 5
  • Taxi / Uber to Kaiser Wilhelm Memorial Church: plan about 20–25 minutes in afternoon traffic.
  • The final stop puts us in Charlottenburg, close to all three dinner choices.
4:35–5:25 PM
5 — Kaiser Wilhelm Memorial Church
  • Planned stay: about 50 minutes.
  • See the preserved bomb-damaged tower, the modern church beside it, and the postwar West Berlin reconstruction story.
Dinner next: Dicke Wirtin and Diener Tattersall are near Savignyplatz; Marjellchen is a little farther west. Plan roughly 5–10 minutes by Taxi / Uber from the church depending on traffic.
5:30–7:00 PM
Dinner in Charlottenburg
  • First choice: A — Dicke Wirtin.
  • Alternates: B — Marjellchen or C — Diener Tattersall.
  • Planned meal: about 1½ hours, with room to relax after a museum-heavy day.
About 7:00 PM
Dinner → H — Airbnb
  • Taxi / Uber home: roughly 15–20 minutes.
  • Estimated finish: around 7:20 PM, leaving the evening open.
Working-day length: about 9 hours 45 minutes from leaving the Airbnb to getting home, including five history stops, travel, and dinner. The biggest variable is Tempelhof: a booked building tour could add an hour or more, so we should lock that down before the final version.
